July 10th, 2012: “A man that seeks truth and loves it must be reckoned precious to any human society” – Epictetus, Greek philosopher
“I deserve it because I have it. You have not got it therefore you do not deserve it. You do not deserve it because you have not got it. You have not got it because you do not deserve it… etc” - R.D. Laing Knots
Self reflection in anti-oppressive practice (AOP) is a valuable and fundamental aspect in this type of social work practice.
Although working as a social worker, separate from our work, as member in society we all internalize dominate ideology and our identities are shaped by it.
Therefore we have a duty to reflect on how dominant ideology constrains us and limits our freedom.
Reflecting on knowledge of ourselves as oppressors and ourselves as being oppressed “where we fit in the social order”.
Furthermore reflecting and ever ending questioning of our social, economic, political and cultural beliefs, assumptions and actions
So go! Seek truth of your own ideology! Because you are previous to our human society!
